Music / Youth Director
Summary: In this position, New Covenant Presbyterian Church desires to fill two distinct part-time positions, and are open to doing so through one full-time person. The Music Director will have the general responsibilities of developing, guiding and leading our current Music Team and also developing a choir to assist in leading worship on a monthly basis. The Youth Director will lead our Youth Ministries, consisting of Middle School and High School. He will do this with a Youth Resource Team that will involve the parents and other adults of the congregation in the lives of the students.
Mission of the Music Director Position: The Music Ministry of New Covenant Presbyterian Church exists to lead the saints in their service of worship before God and equip them for kingdom work, utilizing God’s gift of music in obedience to the principles and precepts of Scripture. The Music Ministry encourages musical expression from all the saints, which is passionate and diverse. This biblically mandated ministry is to be conducted in dependant faith as expressed in humble, prayerful submission to our Lord Jesus Christ. The Music Ministry falls under the authority and vision of the Session of New Covenant Presbyterian Church.
The music ministry at New Covenant has several commitments: to excellence, to building corporate musical worship, to a plurality of musical styles, to expressions that are both historical and trans-cultural (versus anti-historical or anti-cultural), and to a diverse musical personnel. Our music ministry should both assist the saints in expression of a current worship of God and also train them to more effectively utilize their musical gifts for His glory. We also believe in doxological evangelism, that earnest, Spirit-driven, Word-centered, selfless, excellent worship is a powerful, living witness to the unconverted.
The music director is responsible for providing the leadership in the area of music for New Covenant Presbyterian Church. This includes adult choral music, praise music and hymns, and possibly, children’s music. He is to use this position to develop an adult choir that will participate in scheduled Sunday worship services and at other special events in order to enhance the congregation’s worship of the Lord.
Mission of the Youth Director Position: We have established the Youth Director position to coordinate the youth ministries at New Covenant Presbyterian Church. Our goal is the development of our students as disciples of Christ and participating members of the family of God. We also desire to reach their peers amidst our community. This involves teaching, mentoring, gathering, training, and counseling students. It also involves training and coaching parents and involving the larger church in the lives of and ministry to the students. Those tasks have the aims of:
- Developing knowledge of the Scriptures
- Cultivating students’ understanding of Christian character
- Developing a Christian worldview
- Learning how to live in Christian community together
- Learning how to live as part of the larger family of God
- Cultivating a view of reaching their friends with the gospel
Because of the limited hours allowed for the position, we expect the youth director to develop and work with a larger team of adult volunteers enlarging the scope of possible ministry.
